A Guide to Kitchen Cabinet Replacement

When thinking of a good splash of change for the heart of your New York home, nothing beats focusing the change on the kitchen's building blocks and most dominant feature-the cabinets. Whether you live in Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, or Staten Island this type of project would surely boost your home's overall value. Kitchen cabinet replacement would not only add appeal to the area but also increase functionality and productivity thus enhancing the everyday living of the family.

When comparing the monetary costs, many eye brows would surely be raised. Of course you could opt to reface instead of replace, but when is it time that a kitchen cabinet replacement proves to be more beneficial? Here are several benefits of a full replacement over a surface level reface:

* With both projects, the look is considerably changed but kitchen cabinet replacement allows for further improvements in terms of functionality, organization and storage.
* If you do not like the current location of your cabinets and its condition is really bad, then replacing them would be ideal.
* Replacing your kitchen cabinets would also give you more freedom to let your creativity work in terms of design.
* All in all, totally replacing your cabinets would offer the perfect solution to answer to the changing needs of your family.

When thinking of kitchen cabinet replacement, one of the most common issue faced by homeowners is the overall cost. This is also the very reason why you should make sure that everything turns out right and none is wasted. Avoid risks by hiring a qualified local contractor and shop for quality products and material to integrate into your project. If you have to cutback on the budget, do so by spending wisely not cheaply. And in the end, if you plan and do things right, the project would give you a great return on your investment.

Depending on your budget and personal taste, you can choose from among the three cabinet types for your kitchen cabinet replacement. Stock cabinets come as the cheapest and though sporting some of the most popular designs; offer a limited variety. Semi-custom cabinets offer more features, coming in a more varying range of sizes, materials and finishes that may be interchangeable. Custom-made is the most expensive among the options but offer an unlimited set of choices with every detail made sure to answer to your needs and wants.

The material and finish that you choose for your kitchen cabinet replacement project would greatly impact the overall look and durability. Metal, especially stainless steel has been getting more popular with the trends tending toward modern minimalist designs. Laminate is the cheapest option and can look as good as other materials but may not be as durable and long lasting. Wood, on the other hand, is a classic choice that adds not only warmth and elegance but longevity as well and can be finished in more ways. Though each has its own advantages, it is also important to look into the disadvantages and weigh carefully which suits your kitchen cabinet replacement project best.

Eugene Makeev uses his skills and expertise to help home owners in Brooklyn, Long Island, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island avoid the common pitfalls by matching their kitchen cabinet replacement NYC needs with prescreened contractor specializing in kitchen remodeling NYC.

Pergola Design - Which Should I Choose?

Whether it is a DIY plan, or a kit you are after, it is important to get the pergola design right, for it to fit seamlessly within your garden. Let's take a look at some of the options.

With such a huge range of styles available on the market today, it can be difficult to make the right choice for your garden. The design you choose will often be influenced by the material from which the structure is made. These are the main ones -

* Traditional Wooden - made with tanalised wood
* Metal / wrought iron
* Vinyl / pvc
* Brick pillars with wooden rafters
* Metal posts with wooden rafters
* Stone pillars with wooden rafters
* Bamboo
* Rustic poles

Think about the style you would prefer, and which will fit in best -

* Traditional - usually made from square section wooden poles with shaped rafter tail ends.
* Cottage garden - a romantic pergola, used with an abundance of plants to enhance the structure.
* Asian inspired - with curved or turreted rafters, to give a feel of the Far East.
* Classical design - usually used as a stand-alone feature with, for instance, stone pillars.
* Modern - using clean, sleek lines to give a minimalist feel.

Many of these styles can be found in a variety of materials, although wood is still by far the most popular. For example, a cottage garden design might be made from rustic poles, intricate wrought iron, or brick pillars - depending on the desired effect.

The size and nature of the garden also has to be given due consideration. Too big, and it might stick out like a sore thumb. Too small, and it will be lost and insignificant.

A great deal depends on personal preference. Get ideas from several different sources - magazines, the internet, gardening books, other gardens - and try to visualise the overall look of your garden. Match the style and materials to the design of your existing garden, or your new design plan. A new plan can even be developed around a particularly stunning pergola, setting the feel of the entire area, much as the interior design of a room can be based around a piece of art work.

Have fun doing a bit of research, and then choose a style that will be a joy to look at for many years to come. Whether you build it yourself, or buy a kit, there will always be a pergola design to suit every garden.

Create a Minimalist Bathroom

The goal of the minimalist closet is to have clean lines, zero clutter and no wasted space. But, there should be an appearance of space. Follow these tips to achieve the look that you're going for.

Minimalism refers to a trendy form of interior design. Basically, everything is stripped down to its fundamental strength. In other words, no frills design. At the core of this concept is organization. Everything should have a place. The space should be specific for its intention. For example, you would not put suitcases on the same shelf as your hats. You wouldn't pile up shoes randomly on the floor. In fact, one thing that is fairly consistent throughout minimalist design is that nothing should touch the floor.

Cabinets installed low in the closet are popular for storing shoes. If the cabinet does not have legs and is not sitting on the floor, then it is in line with the minimalist feel. Shelves should not have a lot of decorative supports. Many have the appearance of a board simply jutting out from the wall. Another popular shelf for minimalism design is the box shelf. These shelves provide small cubby spaces for hiding things like jewelry boxes, or boxes designed to hold ties.

Keeping with the theme may seem hard if you have a large variety of items that need to be stored. Use unassuming containers that hide clutter for things like socks, underwear, swim wear and other items that may not hang or fold neatly. You can use circular swim wear hangers for women's swim suits if you would like. In fact, many specialty hangers will make your closet even more organized. If certain things go on certain types of hangers, then you are executing the fundamentals of the style perfectly. Everything has its own place.

Create a spacious atmosphere by using slim hangers. Ditch your old mismatched or bulky colorful hangers and replace them with a slim, subdued metal hanger. These hangers keep clothing slightly separated without crossing over each other on the bar. The metal hanger is far superior to the wire hanger in terms of strength and style. You can use metal hangers knowing that they won't appear bulky, bend or get tangled on the bar.

A minimalist closet does not even have to be in the closet. More and more people are venturing out into the room with their clothes storage systems. Here's a popular idea. Use your closet for storage space. Then, install a long shelf up high with a hanging bar beneath it. This bar can be as long as you want it to be. Then, another long shelf below, near the floor. The bottom shelf is for displaying shoes. Hang all of your clothes on the bar and arrange by color and/or length. The top shelf can be used to display hats or bags. Some people leave this area uncovered while others choose to hang a curtain or use a room divider. Either way, you minimalist closet will look sharp, clean and organized.

Minimalist Design - Space, Light, Furniture

There's something strangely comforting about coming home to an empty space, especially if that space is a chic downtown loft furnished in the style of minimalist decor.

In an urban chic world, minimalist design is back in full swing. The post-World War II design movement that stripped away all but the fundamentals is in every way applicable to the aesthetics of the new millennium. The trend to emphasize raw elements is rooted in the artistic, political, and economic psyche of a growing mass of urban professionals. But let's not get into all of that. Suffice to say that open space, clean lines, and simple furnishings are very much in style.

Whether you live in a space conducive to minimalist design or you'll have to do some tweaking, there are simple ways to bring the movement's calm into your home.

The movement relies heavily on light to create the feeling of open space with a room. Consider natural lighting, color schemes, wall space, and furniture if you are seeking to reinvent the look of your home.

White walls with minimal decoration tend to free space within the room. Some favor off white, as white itself can evoke sterility. Similarly, floors should be kept light; literally. Minimalist design avoids fabrics. Hardwood or concrete floors are favored; open windows prevail over heavy drapery.

Finally, furniture choices are crucial in minimalist design. A perfect place to start is the bedroom. Consider space carefully when selecting a bedroom set. Typically, low profile bed frames are preferred. A dark finish to the bed frame stylishly contrasts light walls, often matched with crisp white bedding. Matching bedroom pieces should be selected for functionality. Elsewhere in the house, the same rule applies: consider space carefully.

Remember that minimalist design seeks to free space; clutter counters the vision of such design. Pieces in your home are a matter of function, as well as aesthetics, and the aesthetics of open space is precisely what creates the feeling of calm this design movement elicits. So choose your furniture carefully and keep in mind the fundamentals of minimalist design: clean lines, asymmetry, and light.

Remarkable Interior Design Ideas from Gary Spain

Remarkable Interior Design Ideas from Gary Spain
Gary Spain is a creative artist from San Francisco whose interior design portfolio draw our attention. In the pictures below you have some of his projects and we are eager to find out what you think about them. We notice two different approaches: simple and classy versus Remarkable. We would like to concentrate more on the second type of interiors, as they stand out and contribute to the designer’s distinctive personality. Flashy colors and wacky decorative elements are the “salt and pepper” of these interiors. The wallpapers have interesting patterns and some of them go well with the rugs on the floors. Paintings are everywhere complementing unusual wall decorations such as stag heads and giant clocks.
